Investigation into Camden teen's slaying focuses on 2 women
CAMDEN - Investigators want the public's help in solving the homicide of a city teenager.
The victim, identified only as a 17-year-old male who no longer attended school, was shot around 1:20 p.m. Monday near South 29th and Clinton streets in East Camden, according to the Camden County Prosecutor's Office.
Police responding to 911 calls found the youth lying in the street. The teenager was taken to Cooper University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead about 30 minutes later, the prosecutor's office said.
The victim's name was not released because he was a juvenile, the prosecutor's office said.
"We learned very early about the shooting yesterday, so our school guidance teams and counselors have been available at our East Camden schools today," said Maita Soukup, a spokeswoman for the district.
"A tragedy like this really does affect our students," she said. "We’re doing all we can to support them."
An investigation is underway into the homicide, the city's first in 2018.
The prosecutor's office released photos of two females seen in the area around the time of the shooting.
"Detectives would like to speak with these women," the prosecutor's office said.
"Members of the public should not approach these individuals but should call police if they have information pertaining to their identity or whereabouts."
Anyone with information is asked to contact Prosecutor’s Detective Jason Rowello at 856-225-8475 or Camden County Police Detective Shawn Donlon at 856-757-7420.
