MOUNT HOLLY - A Burlington City man was sentenced to 50 years in prison Friday for killing his young son's mother.
Rashon A. Causey, 40, fatally stabbed Shanai Marshall, 37, after forcing his way into her Mount Holly home in November 2016, according to the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office.
A jury convicted Causey in October of murder, burglary and weapons offenses.
Prosecutor Scott Coffina noted Causey has been arrested 92 times and convicted of 11 prior felonies. Given that criminal record and Marshall's violent death, Coffina said, it was "hard to imagine a defendant more deserving of the life sentence."
The half-century term “makes it likely that (Causey) will never experience freedom again, and that will hopefully afford some degree of comfort to Shanai’s loved ones,” Coffina said.
Causey must serve more than 42 year before parole eligibility, the prosecutor's office said.
The prosecutor urged anyone in an abusive relationship to call the Providence House domestic violence hotline at 877-871-7551.
